When a family member becomes a wheelchair user lots of things change.

As well as the health and care side of things, you may also have to arrange ramp access, wider doorways and extensive modifications to their home.

For the person themselves this can be a difficult time. As they come to terms with using a chair they worry about being a burden to those around them and how everyone is going to manage getting them about.

Although this may be the first time for you, it’s not the first time for us – and you can benefit from our considerable experience in transporting passengers in wheelchairs.

Getting out and about is such a fundamental part of everyday life.

Being able to go to the shops or garden centre or just for a quick trip in the countryside or to visit friends cheers everyone up a bit and makes things seem so much easier all round.

We can offer whatever you want.  We can hire you a WAV from a day to a year, find you a good used WAV to buy, or carry out a full needs-based suitability assessment and recommend the best new WAV for you.  The choice is yours.

Sometimes people aren’t sure how much benefit they would really get out of a WAV. So you may want to try out the ride and the practicalities of using a WAV by hiring one before committing to a purchase.  We can arrange this.  And with the Fleximobility approach, if you want you can even buy the car you’ve had on hire!

However you choose to get the car you need, we can also take your current car in part-exchange if you’d like us to.

The Fleximobility process

Regardless of whether you need a vehicle for a day, week, month or even longer, the Fleximobility process is the same.

  • We talk to you and find out all about what types of trips you want to use the vehicle for and who will be travelling.
  • Most importantly, we ask about the wheelchair user and their chair. We’ll need measurements of the chair and sitting height of the chair user and if there are any particular needs which we ought to take into account.
  • We’ll want to know who will be driving and assisting the wheelchair user into the vehicle and if they have any preference or practical or mobility issues we need to consider.
  • You may need to take luggage or other equipment with you, or even your dogs! We’ll need to find room for everything you’ll want with you on the trip.
  • We’ll then use our extensive market knowledge to match all your requirements to the most suitable vehicle, and away you go!

Common mistakes, and how to avoid them

Not understanding what’s going to be important.

All WAVs are different.  Even WAVs of the same model name may have been converted differently and will have different dimensions and attributes.

Buying from someone who doesn’t know what they are selling.

Many used WAV and mini-bus dealers don’t know what the original equipment was or how it should be used.

Our advice:

  • Never buy or hire a WAV on-line without talking to someone.

  • Only buy or hire a WAV from someone who is more interested in finding out about you and less in telling you about their products.

  • If you are buying a WAV, never buy without a free demonstration.

  • Be wary of anyone who wants you to make a decision on the spot.

Talk to one of our specialist mobility consultants. Just tell us what you want to be able do, and we’ll find the perfect Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle for you and your situation.

Three Flexible Options – no need to make long-term commitments.

Everything we do is focused on you and your needs.

2| FlexiHire

  • We’ll take you through the Fleximobility Process to find out when you want to hire, who the wheelchair user will be and what else is important to you.
  • Based on availability we will offer you the most suitable vehicle for your overall needs. Short term hire rates usually include insurance. For a month or longer we will talk to you about putting the vehicle on your own insurance, which may be more economical for you.
  • You will be able to collect the car from us, or have it delivered to your door (with a small charge per mile to cover our costs). At the handover we don’t just get the paperwork done and hand you the keys – our trained staff will run through all the operating systems with your driver, especially the wheelchair securing system, and make sure they are confident in using it before driving off.
  • For your peace of mind all our vehicles are covered by a breakdown recovery service.
When we deliver your Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle ( WAV) our trained staff will run through everything with your driver, so they are 100% confident to use the vehicle.
